The establishment of the village and church was undoubtedly due to the establishment of a Cluny Priory.

The 12th century Roman church, built from rubble stone known as "pierre d'avoine" for its oat-like colour, represents one of the pearls of the Condroz and is the only example of the Cluny architectural style in Belgium.
