The Saint-Donat chapel still hosts a century-old procession. On the last Sunday in June, villagers go from the local church to the chapel, brandishing the saint’s statue. Saint Donat is invoked to protect crops, livestock and even farm machinery from lightning strikes. The Saint-Donat chapel was built around 1840, encompassing an older pillar-post.

This great country walk will take you on a discovery of heritage treasures such as the old center of Héron, the hamlet of Forseilles and the church of Waret-l’Évêque.

Come and discover the Saint-Donat chapel through the tithe walk! The Maison du Tourisme Terres-de-Meuse, in collaboration with the Moulin de Ferrières and the commune of Héron, has produced a walk sheet with the aim of promoting unsuspected treasures. Available in French and Dutch, it shows the route on an IGN map, with a description of the itinerary and points of interest. This great country walk will take you to discover the heritage treasures of the old town of Héron, the hamlet of Forseilles and the church of Waret-l’Évêque. But the highlight of the walk is the secluded, hilltop site of the Chapelle Saint-Donat. A site with an unforgettable silhouette, it’s also a place of pilgrimage and a unique viewpoint over the Burdinale-Mehaigne region.
