Nature in the Condroz

We start this beautiful day discovering the Condroz with the emblematic Petit-Modave walk.

From the castle, walk along the superb beech alley and through the woods that lead to the level of the former Petit-Modave, a village that has now disappeared.

You’ll finally arrive in the nature reserve and Val Tibiémont. An isolated and timeless place, surrounded by woods and bathed by the Hoyoux. This hamlet represents one of the most beautiful images of the Condroz.

Practical info

  • Start : rue du Parc, 4 à Modave

Inspiration for Versailles

In the center of Belgium, the Terres-de-Meuse destination is full of secrets and emblematic monuments. And one of the best-known buildings is certainly the Château de Modave.

Situated on a rocky outcrop 60 meters above the Hoyoux valley, the château offers an exceptional view of the surrounding countryside. Its interior, of rare refinement, is well worth a visit!

Did you know that it once housed a very famous water machine?

A water mill built by Rennequin Sualem of Liège, which at the time was used to raise the waters of the Hoyoux to the château, for domestic consumption and to water the gardens. A model that even impressed Louis XIV’s engineers, who ordered one to supply the Château de Versailles!

Family treasure hunts

Are you looking for activities to share with the whole family? Just the thing, in Terres-de-Meuse we offer memorable experiences to enjoy with the kids! Playgrounds, sports activities, and even treasure hunts that let you discover the territory, local heritage and anecdotes, all while playing.

In Modave, Marchin, Clavier or Tinlot, discover one of the treasure hunts based on local legends! There’s plenty for the whole family to reminisce about and for budding adventurers to enjoy.

Please note, in case of rain, don’t stay indoors, but set off to discover the most beautiful corners of the Condroz thanks to the tourist rally.

Between nature, heritage, exceptional villages and hamlets, you can’t fail to be surprised by the region. Along the way, a fun quiz will entertain young and old alike.
Go to the Syndicat d’Initiative “Entre Eaux et Châteaux” located at Pont de Bonne to pick up your brochure and get the adventure started!

Put stars on your plate

If you’re in the Condroz and feel like really indulging yourself, you should know that the Michelin-starred restaurant “Le Coq au Champs” offers its menus as a Take Away.

Starred by the Michelin guide and awarded a 17.5/20 rating by the Gault et Millau guide, this restaurant promises high-quality service and cuisine. Christophe Pauly was voted Chef of the Year 2021.
